Bursary

What is the Sixth form Bursary?

6th Form students can apply for the 16-19 Bursary Fund if their parents/carers are claiming an income-based benefit such as Working Tax Credits, Unemployment benefit etc.

The bursary fund is available and open to all students to provide financial support with their studies. This money can be used to help with the costs of transport, food, equipment or other course related costs and is subject to the students’ having good attendance (97% or better).

Types of Bursary

There are 2 types of bursary aimed at supporting students in sixth form:

a)Vulnerable Group

Students in care, care leavers or young people in receipt of income support are eligible to apply for financial support for £1200 per year from the vulnerable group 16-19 bursary fund.

  1. b) Discretionary Group

All Students can apply for financial support with their studies if they meet the eligibility criteria. Eligibility is determined by means tested assessment of combined annual household income. It currently is offered to students whose combined family income is less than £25,000. Please read the attached bursary guidance prior to applying. If your son/daughter is eligible for free school meals they will be eligible for the bursary.

How much is the bursary?

£100 is paid every half term and equates to £600 per year for each student. This payment is conditional on your son/daughter having at least 97% attendance.

How is the bursary paid?

All bursary payments are paid directly into a student’s bank account.
